One day Lord Mahadev and Devi Parvathy were travelling around the earth specially on a Navaratri day. Upon reaching a mighty village they stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.
In disguise, they asked a favour to accommodate them for a night. The family was rude and refused to let the divine couples stay in the mansion's guest room.
Instead, the heavenly pair was given a small space in the cold basement.
As they made their bed on the hard floor, Lord Mahadev saw a hole on the floor and repaired it. He gave a new look and shape to the floor.
When Mother Parvathy asked why he took a special interest to renovate the floor, the Lord replied, "Things aren't always alike as what they seem."
The next night in a faraway village the divine couples came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.
After sharing what little food that they had, the couple let the Lord and Goddess sleep in their bedroom where they could have a good night's rest.
But in the early hours of the next morning when the Gods found the farmer and his wife in tears Maa Devi went near Mahadev and asked him the reason for the distress of the poor couple.
Mahadev said that Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, is lying dead in the field.
Now the Divine Mother felt infuriated and asked the Lord,
"How could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow, the only breadwinner, die. Is it not absolutely against our logics"?
"Things aren't always alike as what they seem," the God of Gods replied.
"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole on the floor. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed and cleaned the floor so he wouldn't find it."
"Then last night as we slept in the farmers' bed, the God of death Yama came for the farmer's wife. I gave him the cow instead. However, you don't need to worry, one rich leather businessman will come and buy this dead cow for a heavy price as this cow is a special one and the family is unaware about the special skin that the dead cow has. And with that money, this family can buy at least ten cows. Things aren't always alike as what they seem. my dear"
Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should for us. If you have faith, you need to trust that the outcome has a purpose. You just might not know it but until sometime later...
